PERSONAL:
Wade H. Baxley was born in Dothan, Alabama, on November 1, 1943. He attended public schools in Dothan and received a B. S. in
Accounting from the University of Alabama in 1965. He received his J. D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1968
and was admitted to the state bar that year.
Mr. Baxley served as law clerk to Associate Judge Aubrey
M. Cates, Jr., of the Alabama Court of Appeals from 1968-1969, and he has been in private practice in Dothan since May of 1969.
He served as City Attorney for the City of Dothan from 1973-1981 and has been retained counsel for the Dothan-Houston County Airport
Authority since 1986. He is presently the senior partner in the law firm of Ramsey, Baxley & McDougle.
Mr. Baxley is a member of the Houston County Bar Association and served as its president in 1978-1979. He is a member of the
American Bar Association and served on the Board of Governors for the 5th District from 2003-2006. He previously served as the
Alabama State Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates and as the State Bar Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates from 1989 to 1993.
He has served as a Commissioner on the Alabama State Bar Board of Bar Commissioners from 1982 to 1988 and from 1991 to 1998 for the
20th Judicial Circuit. While serving on the Board of Bar Commissioners, he was a member of the MCLE Commission, Disciplinary
Commission, Character and Fitness Committee and the Supreme Court Liaison Committee. Mr. Baxley was elected and served
as president of the Alabama State Bar Association for the 1999-2000 fiscal year and previously served as vice-president in 1991-1992.
He served as president of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association during 1996-1997 and has been selected to be a member of the Association
of Defense Trial Attorneys. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Farrah Law Society and the Alabama Law Foundation.
Mr. Baxley has also been honored to become inducted as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a Fellow of the Alabama Law Foundation.
He is a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church of Dothan, Alabama. He is currently a member of the Dothan-Houston
County Rotary Club and served as president of the Dothan Kiwanis Club in 1978-1979. He has also served as president of the Houston
County Division of the American Heart Association. Additionally, Mr. Baxley has been a member of the Houston County Personnel
Board since 1984 and currently serves as its Chairman.
Wade is married to the former Joan Morris of
Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and they are the parents of two sons, Hamp and Keener and three grandchildren with one on the way.
PROFESSIONAL:
The law firm of Ramsey, Baxley & McDougle currently represents several insurance companies and their
insureds in the southeast area of Alabama including CNA and State Farm.
Over the past thirty
years, Mr. Baxley has been involved as defense counsel in a variety of lawsuits. He has defended W. R. Grace & Company (lightweight
concrete roof decks) and Cooper Tire Company (defective tires) in product liability cases. Additionally, he has defended numerous
cases involving medical and legal malpractice, automobile accidents and worker's compensation claims for insureds of CNA Insurance
Companies. Recently, he has been referred a number of bad faith cases for defense by several national life, health and accident
insurance companies.
