A Living Will is a legal instrument much like a traditional Last Will and Testament, but the documents serve very distinct and different purposes. A Last Will and Testament disposes of your personal property, real estate and bank accounts and can provide direction to your family as to who will care for your children should you die with minor children. A Living Will allows you to designate what happens to you and your body if you become hurt or incapacitated in such a manner that you are unable to communicate your wishes and desires for your upkeep and treatment to your family and your doctor. A Living Will is often called a Health Care Proxy or a Healthcare Power of Attorney.
